‘Not again’, ‘Seriously’ – Some Everton fans respond to official club post

|

A range of Everton supporters have been reacting on social media, after the Blues were drawn to face League One side Lincoln City in the Second Round of the Carabao Cup.

Danny Cowley’s Imps emerged one-nil victors over Championship side Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night to book their place in the next round of the competition, with Harry Anderson netting the only goal of the night in the 55th minute.

The tie was a very open affair with both sides enjoying a hoard of chances to score, but only six of the Terriers’ 22 efforts were deemed to be on target, compared to nine of the Imps’ 18. Cowley’s Sincil Bank natives also recorded just a 65% pass accuracy rating during their 34% of possession, as only 156 of their 241 attempted passes managed to find a teammate.

Now facing the League One side in the EFL Cup will be the second time inside a year that our two sides have matched up against each other, having been drawn to play Cowley’s club in last season’s FA Cup – where we edged to a 2-1 victory.

Speaking after his side booked their place in the Second Round of the competition, Lincoln assistant manager Nicky Cowley described being drawn against Everton as a spooky coincident.

“It’s an interesting one, after drawing them away in the FA Cup last season,” he noted, as quoted by Lincolnshire Live. “We’ve got a really good relationship with them. They were fantastic with us last season, and we look forward to welcoming them to Sincil Bank.

“It’s been a pretty crazy time for Clive [Nates, the Lincoln Chairman and boyhood Everton fan]. This is another chapter we’re writing for him. It’s a spooky coincidence.”

When Everton announced on Twitter that we would travel to Lincoln during the week commencing August 26, Blues supporters were quick to note the previous time our two sides met.

Others hoped that Marco Silva will take the competition seriously, and not use the Carabao Cup as a chance to personally oversee how the Under 23s would hold up to his plans.
