Just as quickly as it was on, the deal to bring Dutch international Leroy Fer was back off again yesterday.

As was expected this time yesterday Everton and FC Twente couldn’t agree a renegotiated package for the 23-year-old after some issues with his knee were highlighted in his medical.

Everton and FC Twente had agreed a £8.6million transfer fee, whilst Fer had agreed personal terms on a four-and-a-half year contract.

But Everton wanted to renegotiate the transfer following the medical, the overall fee didn’t appear in question, more the upfront sums of cash which Everton wanted to change into appearance related clauses.

The Eredivisie side were clear from the getgo that they would not be interested in renegotiating and yesterday after Everton announced that the deal had collapsed.

‘We are extremely disappointed not to be in a position to complete the signing but we always have to consider what is in the best interests of Everton and its supporters. On this occasion it was not the right thing for the football club to do. a club spokeperson told EvertonTV.

They added: ‘David Moyes and his staff are continuing to look at options to bolster our squad before the transfer window closes.’

With that window closing tonight where will Moyes make his move? To follow all the up-to-date rumours visit the Deadline Day Thread on the Vital Everton forum.
