Former Burnley manager, Sean Dyche has spoken about his links to the Everton job before Frank Lampard took over, with pressure building on him to keep his job after Bournemouth loss.

Current Everton manager, Frank Lampard was appointed in January of 2022. However, due to a current bad run of form including 6 losses in their last 8, the feeling around the Englishman is that his job could be under threat if results do not improve.

Sean Dyche’s Burnley side were relegated last season, finishing 4 points behind Everton whose late burst of form and a wonderful comeback victory over Crystal Palace helped them reach safety after a really poor season.ย

Dyche was the manager of Burnley for close to 10 years after joining from Watford in 2012, taking them from a mid-table Championship side to a Premier League staple and even qualifying for the Europa League after a 7th-place finish in 2018.

Although he was sacked as the Burnley manager in April 2022, the Englishman was heavily linked to the Everton job after Rafa Benitez was sacked. However, after a relentless reaction from Everton fans to the reported manager shortlist, Frank Lampard was appointed.

In an interview with TalkSport, Dyche has confirmed his thoughts about the whole ordeal at the time:

“I was so heavilly linked, but no one ever spoke to me or anything like that”

“(Everton) are a proper club, we all know that”

“I think Frank is doing a good job there and I hope he does well”

With pressure now mounting on Frank Lampard to improve on some horrific performances recently, Dyche could well be one of the managers that the Everton hierarchy look at as a potential replacement if Lampard should lose his job. Former manager, Roberto Martinez has also been linked heavily to becoming Lampard’s replacement.
