Could Everton be set to make a move for former Scotland International Goalkeeper Craig Gordon?

The 29-year-old who once cost Sunderland £9million, is currently a free agent after he was released by Sunderland at the end of last season.

The reason why he has been without a club for the best part of six months is because he’s had issues with injury, so will David Moyes be the man to take a punt on him? He’s had mixed results when making moves like this in the past. James McFadden didn’t exactly go as hoped, eventually making just eight appearances including three starts during his second spell at Goodison Park.

The next players Moyes took a bit of a gamble on was Thomas Hitzlsperger who was unattached following his release from German club Wolfsburg. Overall it’s still to early to tell how this move will play out, but it would seem to have a lot more potential that the signing of McFadden ever did.

So how will this tactic of signing various waifs and strays work out for Moyes? Well if the Mirror are correct, Gordon could sign a deal ahead of the January transfer window opening as he is a unattached and he would only be acting as back up for Tim Howard anyway.

So worth a punt?
