Midfielder ‘spoke by phone’ to Everton who ‘presented contract – 22 y/o’s pursuit explained

According to Esporte News Mundo, Everton are interested in Wendel and have already made an approach for the Sporting CP midfielder. The 22-year-old has ‘spoke by phone’ to Carlo Ancelotti and was ‘presented (a) contract until 2025’ with an ‘automatic renewal clause’ included.

Esporte News Mundo say Napoli are also on the hunt for Wendel and lead the race for his signature this summer, so Everton have stiff competition to bring him to Goodison Park. Sporting are keen to keep the Brazilian midfielder, however, so it may take a lofty bid to get their attention.

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

Wendel arrived at the Estádio José Alvalade from Fluminense in 2018 and has gone on to make 41 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals and making two assists. The 22-year-old has made 30 appearances across the board this season and has had a hand in four goals.

Ancelotti has Andre Gomes, Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Fabian Delph, Morgan Schneiderlin, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Tom Davies in midfield, but he’s looking for a new face as Schneiderlin and Sigurdsson have been linked with a summer exit.

Esporte News Mundo say that Wendel plans to make a decision on his future with his representative Carlos Eduardo Brazil, but Napoli may be a preferred destination over Goodison Park.
