Midfielder former boss once likened to Busquets would be an awful signing for Everton – Opinion

|

It is no secret that Everton are in an absolute state, yet after a transfer window of spending over £100m, what good will throwing more money at a problem to do for the Merseyside club?

That seems to be the suggestion, though, from Darren Bent, who speaking recently to Football Insider offered up a player that the Toffees could sign in the January window.

In the words of Coleen Rooney, it’s……… Eric Dier.

Speaking about the Tottenham midfielder to Football Insider and the potential of the England international leaving north London, Bent said: “I think Leicester would be a good one (club to move to), they could get the best out of him, Everton (as well), yeah, good.”

Indeed, the mere prospect of Dier washing up on Merseyside is a nightmarish thought for the majority of Everton fans, who are still trying to get over the horror show that is Morgan Schneiderlin this season, and supporters would be correct to be worried about the club making a genuine attempt to sign the Spurs anchor.

Despite former manager Sam Allardyce comparing Dier to that of Barcelona star Sergio Busquets in an interview with talkSPORT, the former Sporting Lisbon midfielder would be nothing short of a terrible signing for Everton.

With the likes of Fabian Delph, the aforementioned Schneiderlin and Jean-Philippe Gbamin on the books already at Everton, the club simply do not need a fourth defensive midfielder in the squad, and in particular, one that has been criticised in recent months for his poor performances on the pitch as reported by Football London.

Everton need serious work as evident by their 18th place standing in the current Premier League table, yet throwing cash at the problem is exactly what the Toffees don’t need to do, and Dier is without question the last player the Merseyside club need.
