Loads of Everton fans have been lauding Mason Holgate on social media after the club shared a post highlighting the defender’s performance against Watford.

Holgate opened the Premier League affair at Vicarage Road on Saturday for his 19th-straight inclusion in a starting line-up across all competitions, having last begun a match on the bench as we beat West Ham United on October 19.

The former England U21 international may not have been able to keep his fourth Premier League clean sheet when starting of the term on Saturday, but proved pivotal in Carlo Ancelotti’s overturning the 2-0 deficit faced.

Per stats shared by the club, Holgate won ten duels against Watford, recorded 71 touches, completed 46 passes and made four clearances, while taking his touches across the core of the field.

Data collected from Vicarage Road by Sofa Score show that Holgate won his ten duels from five ground battles and five aerial contests – only losing one and two respectively.

The 23-year-old also made two interceptions and one successful tackle, while Sofa Score and WhoScored‘s statistics from the game claim that Holgate actually completed 48 passes rather than 46 and completed his only attempted dribble.

Is Holgate our best centre-back?

Fans have been lauding Holgate in response to the club’s post, with some applauding the centre-half for his display and others suggesting the Blues must offer the £25,000-per-week ace a new contract.

Holgate’s current terms are due to expire in the summer of 2022, though reports earlier in the week claimed Ancelotti is keen to see the club open negations over an extension.

Here are some of the messages shared as fans reacted to the club’s post highlighting some of Holgate’s stats versus Watford…
