‘Looks like a baby giraffe learning to walk’ – Some Everton fans discuss £27m-rated man’s season

Some Everton supporters have been discussing Yerry Mina’s first season at Goodison Park, with one fan noting he “looks like a baby giraffe learning to walk”.

The Colombian centre-back was one of three players brought to Merseyside from Barcelona last summer, but was unable to hold down a regular spot in Marco Silva’s side in the way that Andre Gomes and Lucas Digne managed.

The French left-back’s efforts as Leighton Baines’ successor have regularly been applauded, and many supporters consider the 25-year-old our Player of the Season.

Gomes has also been earning rave reviews from the Goodison Park faithful, who are keen to see Marcel Brands work his magic to secure the Portuguese’s services beyond his one-year loan.

Mina, though, has been resigned to just ten starts in the Premier League, as well as two in the FA Cup, with the £27million-rated defender often plagued by injuries.

His career in Royal Blue began with a foot injury on the back of the 2018 World Cup, and he was sidelined again come the New Year.

Between January 1st and the end of the season, Mina would only be able to add four appearances to his name in the League – one of which lasted just a single minute.

His per 90-minute averages were not overly poor, however, which offers some hope that Mina will be able to prove his worth next term if he can stay fit – something we will need to see if Kurt Zouma returns to Chelsea.

In Mina’s combined 13 Premier league appearances, the 24-year-old averaged 1.7 attempted tackles per 90, as well as 0.8 interceptions, five clearances and 6.6 aerial duels.

That’s why some fans have backed him for a better campaign next time around…
