The Champions League Semi-Finals began this week, and while we may not be competing in them, the high-level encounters have not gone amiss among parts of the Toffees fanbase on Twitter.

Liverpool facing the recently crowned La Liga champions Barcelona was not an occasion our former star winger Steven Pienaar could miss, either, and some Everton fans absolutely loved a post he shared on the social media platform.

Clearly, even retirement has not stopped the iconic South African from holding the Blues close to his heart, as he shared ‘Come [on] FC Barcelona, show [Liverpool] who’s boss’ ahead of kick-off.

Pienaar had faced the red half of Stanley Park on eleven occasions while a senior player for Everton, but never managed to find the back of the Anfield native’s net or add to his 49 assists as a Toffee.

He did manage to create one goal at Liverpool’s home during his ill-fated year at Tottenham, as Spurs came out 2-0 winners, but that was unfortunately his only triumph over them in the Premier League – the 37-year-old played for 60 minutes when we eliminated them from the 2009 FA Cup.

Much like Pienaar delighted some Everton fans on Wednesday night, the result clearly left a mark on our former winger, as he went on to share another two posts as the goals started to fly in past Alisson Becker, and Jurgen Klopp’s men fell to a 3-0 first-leg defeat.

Here’s what some Everton fans made of Pienaar’s posts…
