‘Let’s get it done quick’ – Many Everton fans react after reports suggest deal is close

Idrissa Gana Gueye’s days as an Everton player are close to their end, as Le Parisien understand the Senegal international will be the latest recruit of Paris Saint-Germain.

The Ligue 1 outfit have courted the defensive midfielder extensively in 2019, and saw bids of up to £26.5million rebuffed in the winter, as Marco Silva held firm in his reluctance to sell a key member of the first-team at a crucial stage of his inaugural Toffees campaign.

PSG boss Thomas Tuchel has continued to harbour aspirations of signing the 29-year-old midfielder as contract rebel Adrien Rabiot’s successor, and returned to the matter upon the opening of the summer market with the backing of his new Director of Football Leonardo.

An offer of €30million (£26.7m) was lodged by the former AC Milan Technical Director, but to no avail as the Blues once again held firm in their defiant stance. However, an improved €32million (£28.5m) bid is now understood to have been accepted following a meeting on Merseyside between Toffees chiefs on Tuesday.

Gueye is expected in Paris by the end of the week to carry out his medical with the Ligue 1 champions, where he will become the sixth player acquired by Tuchel’s side this summer.

The Senegal international is currently on holiday in Dakar following his duties at this summer’s Africa Cup of Nations, but will arrive in the French capital with his brother and football agent Laurent Gusmuth.

Gueye recently parted ways with his former representative Thierno Seydi and installed his brother as his agent, but requires Gusmuth due to his brother not possessing a licence to exercise in France.

Gusmuth is a known intermediary for PSG’s transfers, having worked on deals to bring Javier Pastore, Thiago Silva, Dani Alves and Neymar to Les Parc des Princes.

Everton fans reacting to the news of Gueye’s potential move to France have been sharing their disappointment in seeing the 29-year-old leave Goodison Park, having been a key member of the first-team and one of the best in his position in the Premier League. However, some have accepted that now is likely the best time to sell the £70,000-a-week star, and allow him to make his dream move.

Speaking to the French media in February following his speculative move being blocked, Gueye said: “It is a dream that sadly did not come true. Every player works to join the best teams, to play in matches in the Champions League. But I was honoured that PSG were interested in me.

“Now, I know that I am of interest to these types of clubs, I am ready to go to the final level to join a top European club. I am going to work even more so that they come back to me. Maybe it is not finished with PSG.”

Here’s how these Everton fans reacted to reports that a deal is close for Gueye to join PSG…
