‘Less realistic than Yarmolenko’ – Some Everton fans discuss chances of landing 5 ft 7 target

|

Some Everton supporters on Reddit have been discussing the Toffees’ chances of landing David Neres this summer, after reports surfaced suggesting Ajax intend to offer the Brazilian a new contract.

That claim comes courtesy of Globe Sports, who understand the Amsterdam outfit will open discussions with Neres following this summers Copa America, and will offer the Sao Paulo-born star a significantly improved contract.

It will also include an exit clause for next summer’s transfer window, which would see the 5 ft 7 wide man be allowed to move on for a figure lower than his release clause.

Globe Sports do not suggest how much that figure may be, but recent reports have suggested the Eredivisie champions will chase a fee in the region of €80m and €90million (£71.4m to £80.3m) if they are to sanction his sale this summer, rather than the previously believed €50m (£44.6m).

Other claims relating to Neres’ future have also suggested the winger will leave the Johan Cruijff ArenA this summer, with his time in Amsterdam nearing an end after a stellar season in which he helped Erik ten Hag’s side reach the Champions League Semi-Finals.

The domestic campaign was most enjoyable for the 22-year-old though, as he struck a goal every 235 minutes in the Eredivisie for a total of eight in 29 games, along with eleven assists.

Numbers like that would be a welcome boost on Merseyside next season, with Marco Silva and Marcel Brands also on the hunt for a left-footed right-winger, which the Brazilian is.

Supporters on Reddit, however, are not banking on the Selecao sensation wearing Royal Blue anytime soon…
