“Get rid”, “He’s not good enough” – Hordes of Everton fans react as 5 ft 9 man wanted in January deal

|

Hordes of Everton fans have been reacting on social media to reports by the Daily Mail, claiming FC Schalke 04 are keen to keep Jonjoe Kenny at the Veltins Arena beyond his loan deal.

Kenny signed a one-season contract with the Bundesliga outfit ahead of the 2019/20 season, and has been a mainstay of David Wagner’s plans ever since.

The former England U21 international has started each of Die Konigsblauen’s fixtures across the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal, and only failed to see out the full 90 minutes on two occasions when substituted in the closing stages.

Kenny started life in Germany in terrific fashion by scoring in his third Bundesliga appearance and recording assists in the following two matches, though has not been involved in a goal since matchday five.

Schalke would like to turn the 5 ft 9 22-year-old’s temporary move into a permanent arrangement, and want to finalise a deal during the January window.

Should the club sell Kenny to Schalke this month?

Yes

No

Wagner’s outfit had been credited with an interest in striking a permanent transfer for Kenny earlier in the month, when reports in Germany claimed Everton would make it difficult for Schalke to finalise a deal.

The £10.8million-rated right-back has also discussed his future at Goodison Park, by stating that he is not concentrating on what the future holds though does not intend to accept a back-up role anywhere next season.

Kenny has averaged 1.5 successful tackles from 2.2 attempts per 90 minutes across his 17 Bundesliga appearances thus far this term, per WhoScored data, along with 0.8 interceptions, 2.4 clearances, 1.6 blocks, 0.2 successful dribbles from 0.5 attempts, 0.5 accurate crosses and 0.7 key balls.
