Newcastle United may be about to give a load of Everton fans their dream summer, as potential Magpies boss Steve Bruce is interested in a double raid on Goodison Park for James McCarthy and Yannick Bolasie, according to 90min.

Bruce is widely seen to be the favourite to replace Rafa Benitez at St James’ Park this summer following the Spaniard’s departure when his contract expired on June 30. The current Sheffield Wednesday boss has also reportedly resigned from his duties at Hillsborough to force his way out of the Owls.

One of his first acts of business on Tyneside may be turning to Merseyside, as the 58-year-old is understood to be keen on putting Newcastle’s transfer budget to good use with moves for Bolasie and McCarthy, having attempted to lure both to Villa Park last summer while he was in charge of Aston Villa.

Bruce managed to add Bolasie to his squad before his sacking, but could not convince Marco Silva to part ways with McCarthy at the time. However, Silva is now thought to have given the defensive midfielder the green light to secure a £10million permanent move away from Goodison Park, having only turned to the Republic of Ireland international once following his return from injury.

Everton are likewise hopeful that £10million can be raised from the sale of Bolasie, as there is a release clause for that amount in the DR Congo international’s contract that became active this summer.

Allowing McCarthy to move on this summer would leave some Toffees supporters dejected, but seeing Bolasie’s £75,000-a-week contract scrubbed from the club’s books will clearly leave more delighted going by how these fans reacted to 90min’s claims…

  • Miralas is very good, real bargain, so say we call it a round 30mill and to show good will, we will deliver, BUT, no sale or return.
