Injury doubt for Everton as defender ‘will be assessed’ ahead of Manchester United clash

|

Everton confirm they have an injury doubt ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Manchester United – Lucas Digne. The 26-year-old ‘will be assessed’ before Carlo Ancelotti makes a decision on his selection.

Digne has been struggling with a calf injury that caused him to miss Everton’s 3-2 defeat to Arsenal (February 23) and has been training on his own at USM Finch Farm. Leighton Baines will likely start at left-back if he’s ruled out.

The French international will be missed as he’s been a regular under Marco Silva, Duncan Ferguson and Carlo Ancelotti this season, featuring in 25 of Everton’s 27 Premier League games while contributing five goals for his troubles.

As per WhoScored, Digne has created 58 chances, won 69 aerial duels (66%), completed 74.8% of his 972 passes, made 15 successful dribbles (65%), blocked 32 shots/passes/crosses, whipped in 211 crosses with 27% accuracy, made 58 clearances and averaged a tackle (55) or interception (31) every 25 minutes.

Nevertheless, Baines is an able deputy and Everton are no slouches. The Toffees come into Sunday’s meeting with four wins from their last six home games and haven’t lost at Goodison Park since November 2019.
