Injury boost for Everton as £27.4m signing ‘is fit’ after recovering from knock

Everton have confirmed that Alex Iwobi ‘is fit’ to face Southampton on Thursday evening. The 24-year-old picked up a minor injury in Everton’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, resulting in his being substituted midway through the game, but he’s said to have recovered and should make the squad locking horns with the Saints.

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

Iwobi has made 26 appearances in all competitions since joining Everton from Arsenal for £27.4m last summer, scoring two goals with one assist. He’s been a regular since football returned in England, but Iwobi has struggled for consistency. His only Premier League goal came in September 2019 and he’s yet to make an assist in the top-flight, so his place in the side may be up for grabs.

Carlo Ancelotti has Bernard, Anthony Gordon, Theo Walcott and Tom Davies who can operate out wide, but Bernard hasn’t scored since February, Gordon is still new to the first-team, Walcott is returning from abdominal surgery and Davies has been inconsistent.

That being said, Everton come into their meeting with Southampton off the back of fine form – two wins, one draw and one defeat. The Blues are 11th in the Premier League table with 44 points from 33 games and could go four clear of Southampton with a win.
