Injury boost as Everton midfielder returns to training

|

Everton confirmed that Andre Gomes returned to training on Tuesday for the first time in three months. The 26-year-old has made a full recovery from his ankle break suffered in Everton’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur (November 3, 2019) and now has to build up his match fitness before he’s back out on the pitch.

After last season’s successful loan move, Gomes joined Everton on a permanent deal over the summer and has made nine appearances in all competitions. He’s missed 15 games across the board due to the ankle injury but should feature for the Toffees again in February or March.

Gomes returning from a fractured ankle in just 86 days is nothing short of remarkable. It’s also great news for Everton as they’ll soon have a talented midfielder available for selection. Gomes could play one or two games for the u23s before returning, however.

Mason Holgate, Fabian Delph, Morgan Schneiderlin, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Tom Davies have all played in the midfielder’s absence this season, helping Everton turn things around after a slow start to the campaign. The Toffees currently sit 12th in the Premier League with 30 points from 24 games.
