Injury boost as 25-year-old Everton man ‘possibly can play’ against Tottenham

|

Everton have received an injury boost ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Tottenham, with Yerry Mina likely to feature. Marco Silva said the 25-year-old “possibly… can play” after returning to training in the week.

He said in Friday’s pre-match press conference: “He (Mina) worked with the team this morning. Like I said after the (Watford) match, it is nothing serious what he has with his knee.

“We did the normal exams and we did them again after the match on Tuesday and it’s nothing serious. It’s just a matter of him having the conditions to (manage) the pain he has in this moment.

“If he can do that, he can train, and possibly he can play as well. Today he did all the session so let’s see how he is tomorrow and after we’ll take the decisions.”

Mina suffered a recurrence of a previous knee injury against Watford on Tuesday, but Silva was adamant he hadn’t sustained serious damage. Should he feature against Spurs this weekend, the 42-year-old will have been right.

Mason Holgate has partnered Michael Keane at the heart of Everton’s defence in Mina’s absence and helped the Blues keep a clean sheet in their EFL Cup win over Watford. He may face a battle to keep his place, however.

Yerry Mina

Holgate has only racked up 107 minutes of Premier League football this season and was on the losing team Everton’s last top-flight outing – 3-2 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Everton can’t afford to drop any more points after their slow start to the campaign. The Toffees are 16th in the table with 10 points from as many games, having lost five of their last six ahead of Sunday’s meeting.

Mina’s experience alongside Keane could be vital to Everton getting a result against Tottenham.
