According to BBC Sport, Alex Iwobi ‘remains out’ ahead of Everton’s meeting with Burnley on Thursday. The 23-year-old limped off after 11 minutes in the Toffees’s 0-0 draw with Arsenal (December 21) and was replaced by Cenk Tosun.
Iwobi isn’t expected to return in time to face the Clarets which is a blow for new manager Carlo Ancelotti. Theo Walcott has already been ruled out with a calf injury until 2020, so the Everton boss is running out of options. Iwobi’s absence could mean Bernard and Richarlison are given the nod on opposing flanks.
The Toffees are in much better spirits ahead of their meeting with Burnley, having picked up an impressive five points from their last three games against Chelsea (3-1), Manchester United (1-1) and Arsenal (0-0), so they’ll fancy their chances with or without Iwobi.
What will the result be vs Burnley on Boxing Day?
The Nigerian international has made 20 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating three goals. He hasn’t missed a league game for Everton since August but could now find himself on the sidelines for the remainder of the year.
Everton have two more games to see out 2019 – Burnley (home) on December 26 and Newcastle United (away) on December 28 – before they start the new year at Manchester City (away) on January 1, 2020.
