‘Ineffective’, ‘Useless’ – some fans fume at Everton man’s performance in Sheff Utd defeat

|

Gylfi Sigurdsson has so far struggled to replicate his form from last season and was heavily criticised by some supporters following Everton’s 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United on Saturday. The 30-year-old scored and created 19 goals in 38 Premier League appearances in 2018/19 but only has one in six games this campaign.

Against United, Sigurdsson made 64 touches, created four chances, had two shots, completed 97.2% of his 36 passes, whipped in nine crosses with 33% accuracy, made two tackles and drew one foul. Fans weren’t happy with his overall output on Saturday, however, and feel Marco Silva’s tactics aren’t getting the best from him either.

Everton next face Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night and Sigurdsson may be rested for the midweek encounter – supporters want to see Silva give Iwobi the nod. The 23-year-old has scored one goal in four league games since his move from Arsenal, but he may offer Everton something different in attack.

The Blues have scored one or less goals in five of their six league outings this season and have been shut-out in 50% of those games. Change is needed.
