Many Everton supporters have been discussing whether or not Marcel Brands’ reported upgrades at right-back would be beneficial for Marco Silva’s plans.
According to the Liverpool Echo, our Director of Football and his scouting team have been casting their judgment over multiple options who could come to Merseyside as an immediate or eventual replacement for Seamus Coleman.
The £70,000-a-week Republic of Ireland international is the undisputed number one for the position at present, but his form dipped partway through the recently concluded campaign and raised question marks over long-term suitability.
Coleman was able to recover his form in tandem with our uplifting win against Chelsea, but new right-backs seemingly remain on Brands’ radar.
One potential candidate appears to be Crystal Palace’s promising product Aaron Wan-Bissaka, as the England U21 international is well liked at Goodison. However, the Eagles’ reported asking price of £70million is thought to have cooled our interest.
Another potential option is Chelsea’s academy graduate Reece James, who has spent the season just past on loan in the Championship with Wigan Athletic. His efforts at the DW Stadium were even enough for the 19-year-old to scoop the Latics’ Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and Goal of the Season awards.
Previous reports suggested Brands had placed James toward the top of his summer shortlist, while the Echo now add that our scouts have attended several Wigan games this term but refuse to confirm the extent of our interest.
Given the uncertainty over any moves and the options mentioned, Everton supporters have been sharing their thoughts on Reddit…
