Marco Silva’s punishment for confronting the officials at Newcastle has been announced, with the boss slapped with a £12,000 fine by the Football Association.

The Portuguese has gotten off lightly, it has to be said, as the FA could have easily slapped our manager with a touchline ban for the way he confronted Lee Mason and his assistants at St. James’ Park.

He may have had good reason to be angered by some of the decisions made on March 9, especially with the Magpies scoring their winning goal from an offside position, but respecting the referees is something continually pushed by the sport’s governing bodies.

That is why Tottenham Hotspur chief Mauricio Pochettino was dealt a two game touchline ban after he angrily confronted Mike Dean when Spurs lost on the road to Burnley last month.

Silva, though, accepted the FA’s charge of improper conduct at an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing on Tuesday and will not have to watch our upcoming tie with West Ham, or possibly Arsenal, from the stands, unlike his Argentine counterpart.
