‘If he’s the issue, he goes’ – Many Everton fans reflect on huge 18/19 talking point

Marco Silva’s tenure at Everton was a huge talking point last season as things started on the cusp of being acceptable and tragic but soon fell off the boil entirely, leading to many supporters calling for the Portuguese head coach to be sacked over the winter.

Early dropped points at newly-promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers and away to Bournemouth bookended a tough win over Southampton, with Huddersfield, West Ham and Arsenal soon ensuring we had to wait until late September for another three points.

Brief signs of promise followed by holding out Chelsea and keeping Liverpool at bay until deep into stoppage-time, but only the would-be relegated duo of Fulham and Huddersfield put fewer points on the board between December 1 and February 25, with Silva’s men recording three wins and two draws in 14 games.

February 26 brought about another win, though, as we thrashed Cardiff City 3-0, and began a run of form that would only be bettered by Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea – with the Pensioners playing one game more and recording one extra point.

The new season has started with many signs of promise, as well, with Silva overseeing a draw and a win, without the Blues conceding any goals.
