‘I was lucky’ – Everton midfielder on his ‘Horror Tackle’ during Celtic clash

|

Everton midfielder, Issac Price has broken his silence over his ‘horror tackle’ on Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley during their friendly match last week and insists he shouldn’t have been sent off.

Issac Price made his debut for Everton against Arsenal at the Emirates on the last day of last season, coming on as a late substitute in a 5-1 loss.

Since debuting, the teenager has really impressed at youth level for Paul Tait’s under-23 side, earning him a place on the plane for the blue’s trip to Australia to face Celtic and Western Sydney Wanderers.

Price was even given a spot in the EFC lineup, potentially due to the absence of Tom Davies and James Garner from the squad.

He turned out to be one of the toffee’s brightest sparks during the game, but one moment caught the attention of the media more than the rest.

The 19-year-old put in somewhat of a wreckless challenge on Celtic midfielder Matt O’riley but escaped the situation without even receiving a yellow card.

After the match, O’riley stated: [via TheCelticWay]

“I got lucky. I’m not even sure he got booked, I don’t think he did. It was on my knee. I got quite a big mark from it.”

“On another day I get my leg broken.”

However, the Everton man took a different view of the situation: [via TheCelticWay]

“I’ve had a few comments about that tackle saying that I could have been sent off for that.”

“Did I think I was lucky? It was a booking maybe, but it wasn’t a red card.”

“After the tackle, I looked up at the screen and then I heard everyone go ooohhh and thought it could have been a naughty one.”

The match did eventually end in an Everton win on penalties after ending 0-0 after 90 minutes, perhaps rubbing salt into the wombs of the Celtic man.
