With plenty of eyes focused on Jordan Pickford and England’s clash last weekend against Sweden, this bit of news might have slipped through.

Young prospect Matty Fould’s has signed a new 12-month extension to his deal at Everton in recognition of his development in the season of 2-17/18.

The 20-year-old has been a regular fixture in our Under 23 squad under the charge of David Unsworth and he’s slowly beginning to realise the potential that interested us during his time at Gigg Lane and Bury – he joined our youth setup back in January 2016. Last season wasn’t great from a playing perspective as he was hampered by injury, but he still showed enough to earn the extension.

Whilst he no doubt has designs on the first team and making some kind of breakthrough, he’ll be looking for a longer extension next summer and hopefully remaining injury free to show what he can really do in 2018/19.

Speaking to the Official Site as he signed his new deal, he explained.

“It means the world to me. I don’t want to go anywhere else, I want to stay where I am and develop here. Everton is a great club for any young player to be at. The Club has a reputation for playing young lads and giving them opportunities. And the people here, too – the staff, the players – they’re all so welcoming. The fact that they’ve offered me a contract even though I’ve been injured, I have to take as a real positive and try to do as well as I can next season.”

Another prospect making his way through the youth ranks is always to be applauded and whilst some fans are transfixed on new signings, plenty were happy with the news.
