Loads of Everton fans have been reacting on social media after former Toffees midfielder Darron Gibson joined Salford City on a short-term contract.

The League Two side announced Gibson’s arrival at Moor Lane on Thursday after acquiring the 32-year-old outside of the January transfer window due to his free-agent status, with the midfielder penning terms until the end of the season.

Gibson had been training with the Ammies recently in a bid to regain fitness, having failed to find a new club following his release by Wigan Athletic at the close of the 2018/19 campaign despite featuring 18 times for the Latics in all competitions.

Wigan had offered Gibson a chance to revive his stuttering career last term, after the former Republic of Ireland international departed Sunderland by mutual consent following a charge of drink driving.

Gibson pleaded guilty to the charge and was issued a two-year community order having been found three times over the legal limit.

Should Gibson have achieved more at Goodison Park?

Yes

No

Sunderland signed Gibson in 2017 after he fell out of favour at Goodison Park, where he spent five years but only featured in 69 matches as injuries ran riot.

The Black Cats never saw the Manchester United product make more than 15 appearances in a single league season, either, with a groin injury preventing the two-time Premier League winner from helping their ultimately failed bid for second-tier survival in 2017/18.

Here are some of the messages shared as Everton fans reacted to Gibson sealing an out of window move to Salford City…

In other Everton news, the club face paying £30m to sign a rumoured target in the summer after seeing offers rejected in January.
