Everton midfielder Andre Gomes has started the last few matches for manager Marco Silva and fans are now getting a taste of what the 25-year-old former Barcelona man is capable of as he certainly had to be patient as he got his fitness back up to speed following his arrival during the summer transfer window.
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville is a man that knows the Portuguese player pretty well given his managerial spell at Spanish side Valencia.
It didn’t go that well for the former Manchester United man in fairness and I doubt there’s anyone who doesn’t know about his ill-fated spell at the club, but he did work closely for a period with Gomes so does have a good insight into what the man is capable of.
“He’s a brilliant player. There were a few players when I was there. Cancelo, Gaya and Gomes. They were standout players. He’s got good energy from box to box, he can beat a man with the ball at his feet, he can arrive late. He’s a good player, they’ve done well to get him.”
I think most fans would be on board with his claim given what we’ve seen in the last two matches since he got himself up and running at the club but despite his injury, he did arrive to plenty of fanfare and came in very highly rated so he should have a significant role to play between now and the end of the season and then we’ll see what his future holds given the loan spell.
