Everton returned to winning ways in last Sunday’s clash with Bournemouth at Goodison Park as manager Marco Silva looked to put a disappointing festive period and New Year behind us.

Goals from Kurt Zouma and Dominic Calvert-Lewin returned all three points for the side and although it may not have been a 2-0 type of performance and Bournemouth would’ve been disappointed with the scoreline, few could argue we weren’t good value for the win.

With Zouma finding the net and putting in a more solid performance in the heart of defence, BBC pundit Garth Crooks picked him out and selected him in his Team of the Week, along with Ademola Lookman.

Speaking about the on loan 24-year-old, Crooks believed that the player was now showing signs of growing up and really starting to show what he’s capable of doing on the pitch.

“I’ve seen this lad play for Chelsea, Stoke and now Everton. A lot of time and coaching has gone into his game and finally it looks to be paying off. Alongside Michael Keane, Zouma appeared composed in defence in a way I haven’t seen him at his two previous clubs – and looked commanding in the opposition’s penalty area. He looks as if he’s starting to grow up.”

High praise indeed and Zouma does go into our history books following his opening goal as he becomes the 139th player to score for us in the Premier League.

With 21 appearances to his name following his arrival for the season over the summer, fans will be hoping his improvement continues as we look to enjoy a far more consistent second half to the year.
