A few Everton supporters have been reacting on social media lately after a ‘leak’ revealed the opening round of Premier League fixtures.
Allegedly, we will commence our 2019/20 campaign at home to Newcastle United in a Saturday 3pm kick-off on August 10, while Tottenham Hotspur and Norwich City enjoy the honour of playing out the curtain raiser that lunchtime.
Bournemouth, Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Southampton and Chelsea, meanwhile, supposedly join us in the 3pm kick-off slots, with Burnley and Liverpool playing out the Saturday evening game.
Aston Villa v Leicester City and Manchester United v Brighton & Hove Albion, on the other hand, have apparently been selected for Sunday, August 11, with Wolverhampton Wanderers hosting reigning title holders Manchester City in the first Monday Night Football of the term.
However, one of the many reasons why fans are dubious about the early reveal is that Sky Sports and BT Sport do not usually announce which games they are broadcasting until a few weeks after the Premier League declare who is playing who.
BT Sport will also be responsible for broadcasting the Saturday 12:30 kick-offs next season, but the leaked image claiming to show what the opening fixtures will be has Sky Sports for this slot, when they hold the rights for the 17:30 game.
Sky will also be broadcasting the latter Super Sunday match at 17:30 next season, rather than the 17:00 used in the leak and in previous years.
So it is highly unlikely that the leak has the true opening fixtures, but it is not long before the real ones are announced, as the Premier League will declare the full top-flight schedule for the 2019/20 season on Thursday, June 13 at 9am.
But for now, here’s how these Everton fans reacted to the leaked opening game – at home to Newcastle…
