Some Everton supporters have been getting ‘very happy’ recently, as Mundo Deportivo understand an announcement of Andre Gomes’ permanent switch from FC Barcelona to the Blues is imminent.
The Catalan daily sports newspaper suggest the deal for the 25-year-old will set the Toffees back €25million (£22.2m), having already reached an agreement with Gomes following his year at Goodison Park on loan.
An announcement of his permanent switch from the Camp Nou to Merseyside could even be made as soon as today (Wednesday, June 19), with the only thing left to do is have the FC Porto product sign on the dotted line.
Previous reports have claimed his Toffees contract will be worth as much as £120,000-a-week, which would move the former international regular in line with Bernard and fellow Barcelona outcast Yerry Mina as our joint-highest earner.
Signing Gomes from Barcelona will also take our spending with just the La Liga outfit to €75.45million (£67.2m) in the past year alone, having spent €30.25m (£27.1m) on their former Colombian defender and €20.2million (£17.9m) on Lucas Digne, with a further €3m (£2.6m) spread over performance-related bonuses between them.
Landing Gomes for lower than Barcelona’s €30million (£26.7m) asking price is also a clear stroke of brilliance by our Director of Football Marcel Brands, who refused to be drawn into a bidding war when West Ham United entered the frame.
It must be noted, though, that while Mundo Deportivo are claiming the price is €25million, their fellow Catalan outlet Sport suggested we had met Barca’s €30m asking price last week.
Regardless, signing Gomes will be sure to delight many Everton supporters, which is very evident by some of the reactions shared on Reddit to Mundo’s claim…
