‘God no’, ‘Doesn’t fit the project’ – Some Everton fans discuss move for 32-goal, €30m striker

The transfer market is alive and kicking, especially if you are Real Madrid, but Everton are yet to announce a signing other than the free arrival of former Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Jonas Lossl.

Given our struggles to possess a striker capable of regularly finding the back of the net ever since Romelu Lukaku left for Manchester United, some Toffees supporters on Reddit have been discussing whether or not Marcel Brands should be muscling in on the growing interest in FC Porto forward Moussa Marega.

The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a summer switch from the Liga NOS to West Ham United this summer, and more recent claims by Foot Mercato suggest Liverpool and Olympique de Marseille are also keen on adding his services.

Marseille’s Director of Football Andoni Zubizarreta is particularly keen on courting the Mali international captain, having regularly scouted his Portuguese side’s fixtures during the 2018/19 season.

However, as keen as he is to bring Marega to the Orange Velodrome, where new boss Andre Villas-Boas knows the player and his qualities very well, he faces a gargantuan challenge as Les Phoceens’ financial situation makes it almost impossible for the club to reach Porto’s €30million (£26.7m) asking price.

They have already offered around some of their most prized assets due to their high wages and market valuation, with reports suggesting West Ham, Newcastle and Wolves have been given a chance to sign Morgan Sanson, while Manchester United, the Hammers and we have been presented Kevin Strootman.

As such, Foot Mercato expect the 32-goal (21 scored, 11 assisted in all competitions) striker’s future to reside in the Premier League. But not every Everton fan would like that future to be at Goodison Park…
