How much longer will this support last? Speculation will grow and grow during the international break but I’d be amazed if Ronald Koeman wasn’t in charge when Everton return to action the weekend after next.
Koeman, unquestionably, is under pressure with Burnley’s win at Goodison Park in Sunday leaving the Blues with just seven points from the same amount of Premier League games so far – admittedly this hasn’t been an easy start.
Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, earlier this week, backed the boss.
He told Sky Sports: ‘We’re in a bad moment – but these are early days and Koeman has my total support.’
Time and patience isn’t something many are afforded in this day and age but Koeman should be given this. Yes, Moshiri has publically backed him but the Dutchman will himself know how little time people are given and results are what count.
Meanwhile, Michael Keane was obviously disappointed following the defeat against the side he arrived from during the summer and concedes confidence is low. But the England defender also knows it’s down to the players to turn things around with hard work.
‘We have had a pretty bad run of results and that lowers confidence. The only way to get out of that is to keep working hard and win some games. We have the international break now and it is not a good way to go into it. But the lads need to stay fresh and come back strong. We have some big games when we come back and, hopefully, we can get a few wins and move up the table,’ Keane told the Official Website.
Adding: ‘I think everyone expected more than we have given so far: the players and the staff, not just the fans. We know we have been disappointing as a team and need to improve. Expectations from fans is one thing – but the main thing is what we expect of ourselves. And in a few games this season we have fallen below those standards.’
