Modern day Premier League football has been a squad game for many years now and even at Everton, where we boast a small squad, the impact from everyone is important.

Not only for players being rotated to unable others to be rested, so that they can all play at the peak of their physical condition.

The players on the bench these days are just as important as those selected in the starting eleven.

Those players on the bench are expected to make an impact when introduced and at Everton, Roberto Martinez is certainly getting a response from his bench warmers.

10 goals have been scored by Everton substitutes this season. Whilst a number of others have made their impact directly in goals.

The latest was Aiden McGeady who delivered the cross which eventually saw Seamus Coleman score the winner.

“It`s a squad game, Everyone`s competing for places and the subs came on and made a big difference. said Everton midfielder James McCarthy to The Echo.

He continued: “They were looking sharp and that`s always going to be important. We need the subs to come on and make that little bit of difference and Aiden`s come on and put the ball in for Gareth to knock back and it`s an important goal.

“Now we need to look ahead to Swansea and try and get the goal a bit earlier.’
