18-year-old goalkeeper Joe Hilton has capped off his first pre-season training camp with Everton and Marco Silva’s senior squad by signing a new 12-month deal at Finch Farm.

The stopper has made significant progress over the past two seasons that he’s been with us and he said that training with England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford had been ‘inspiring’ so he’s now looking to do everything he can to ensure he continues to make steps forward and can achieve his aim of representing the club in the first team in the coming years.

He moved to us back in 2016 from Manchester City and he’s featured for both our Under 18 and Under 23 sides, and he joined the senior group in Austria after being invited to join in training once more.

Speaking to the Official Site after putting pen to paper on his new terms, he explained.

“I’ve put in a lot of hard work and I think this shows it has paid off. Hopefully it’s the start of a good career. I’ve really settled in here. It’s definitely a family club. Everyone knows each other, so you go from one side of Finch Farm to the other and you know each person there. Next season I just want to play as much as I can, work hard and do everything to be the best goalkeeper I can be.”

Having already been invited to train with the first team given his positive words about Pickford, inviting him on pre-season is another good sign as to how highly he is rated he is and from his perspective, it’s a little taste of things to come if he keeps his head down and continues working hard.

Reactions are now typical from some in the fanbase sadly. I’ll focus on the sensible ones.
