Finishing With A Double Deal?

Ronald Koeman has his sights set on a double deal to round off the Everton summer spending. Well, according to various newspaper reports, including the Daily Star, which cites the Sunday People.

Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud has been linked with the Blues on and off for a few weeks now with the French forward viewed as Koeman’s ‘no.1 target as the new season edges closer.’

Everton’s summer activity has been impressive, very impressive in fact, as the boss has signed quality players, some with future potential in mind and others, who had the ability and experienced for the here and now, due to the continued improvement they should show at Goodison Park.

Many would feel, following the loss of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United, another goalscoring forward is all Everton’s squad is missing? That is probably the case so Giroud, perhaps not that 25-30 goal a season man Lukaku is, would make a fine addition give his proven goalscoring ability and all-round qualities he would bring to the party.

Should Giroud, who hasn’t found a regular starting place easy at Arsenal in the past 12 months or so, a situation that could continue after the Gunners signed a new forward on a club record deal, decide to leave north London it is suggested £25m would bring him to Merseyside – I’d be happy with that.

Meanwhile, long-term target, £50m-rated Gylfi Sigurdsson is the other player Koeman wants in his double swoop.

Hardly surprising as the Icelandic midfielder has been in Everton’s focus for weeks and his continued omission from Swansea’s pre-season plans should see a deal to take him away from the Liberty Stadium, obviously I’m not claiming it’ll definitely see him come to Goodison, concluded ahead of the new season.

This report went on to say Blues teenage left back Callum Connolly ‘might be crucial to securing the deal’ as Connolly, 19, could be used as a sweetener in the Sigurdsson deal.
