Even though many managers have had to wheel and deal, few have been successful, especially with a limited budget. David Moyes has been a relatively success up to now, but if Moyes believes he can break through into the top four with a limited budget, he has been to Old Kent Road, smoking some legalised Cannabis!
My point is that Bill Kenwright has to dip his hands a bit deeper into his pockets if we are to have a squad that can complete against the likes of Tottenham and Newcastle regularly, let alone the Sky nominated top four!

Kenwright has backed Moyes, don’t get me wrong. Last summer allowing £8 million in straight payments for the Howard, AJ & Lescott transfers is believing and backing your manager, yes. And we don’t want to over-spend and end up like poor Leeds United (sob)! But the line between being prudent and being stingy is I fear being blurred.

I challenge anyone who says Everton cannot afford to pay £8 million for Fernandes? After a 6th-place finish in the League, and a good financial year in operating terms, £8 million should not be a problem. But do we, as a club, want to go for the throat? Or are we, as a club, content on making slug-pace progress. Progress that will see us improve, but also see our enemies grow stronger at a much more rapid rate!

Every Evertonian knows where we belong, but we also know that throwing money at the problem doesn’t always fix it. I do and don’t trust Moyes with OUR, yes OUR cash. The cash the poor paying public pay each term without fail to this lying club, money which we ultimately have no say on where it goes (Kirby/Beattie). I reckon if Moyes was allowed to have a blank cheque book, he would buy better. But another part of me suggests that his negativity/caution will unfortunately steer him towards the workman-like players, like Neville.

So that`s the problem facing Everton this summer: do we go for it and trust Moyes to spend wisely to push us closer towards the elite clubs, or do we remain conservative and possibly risk losing ground again to the clubs with more ambition/spending power than us? Decisions, Decisions! Personally I would gamble a little bit, but time will tell.
