Some Everton fans have been reacting on social media, after reports by The Athletic claimed Cenk Tosun could miss the rest of the season after sustaining a serious knee injury whilst in training with loan side Crystal Palace.

The Eagles are still waiting for the results of scans to reveal the full extent of the blow, but fear that it could see the Turkey striker sidelined until the summer and potentially rule him out of the European Championship finals.

Palace agreed to take Tosun on loan in the January window having struggled for goals this season, with Jordan Ayew (seven) the Selhurst Park natives’ leading ‘scorer in the top-flight ahead of Wilfried Zaha (three) and Christian Benteke only opened his account against us last month.

The Athletic also note that Roy Hodgson’s South London outfit took hold of a £20million option to buy Tosun in the summer, but it is the Toffees who will cover his full £60,000-per-week contract during any lengthy injury.

Palace could also look to cut short Tosun’s loan deal if he is subjected to a lengthy rehabilitation period, which would see the 28-year-old return to Goodison Park where his contract does not expire until 2022.

Will Tosun be at Goodison Park next season?

Tosun has scored once since moving to Selhurst Park on loan, with the Wetzlar, Germany-born Turkey international doubling his league tally for the term with the Eagles’ opening goal in a 2-2 draw with Manchester City.

He has only featured for four minutes in all competitions since the end of January, though, having been forced to miss two top-flight games after developing a contused laceration and was illegible to face us.

Palace are one point behind us in the Premier League standings after recording back-to-back top-flight wins, after failing to claim all three points in ten of their prior 11 games.
