A few Everton fans took to social media after Sunday’s defeat at Arsenal to share their frustrations on Yerry Mina’s performance.

Mina played a pivotal role in the match starting positively for Carlo Ancelotti’s Toffees, with the Colombian forcing Sead Kolasinac back into the Gunners’ penalty area as Gylfi Sigurdsson lifted a 30-yard free-kick into the box, before Dominic Calvert-Lewin would produce an overhead kick to score inside the first minute.

Mina would again have a hand in the scoring deep into first-half stoppage-time, when his flick-on found Richarlison whose deft touch diverted the ball underneath Bernd Leno to draw the game level heading into the break.

But defensively Mina was far from as impressive, as his sloppy nature and regularly being caught out at the back almost allowed Arsenal to score more – having fallen asleep when Eddie Nketiah equalised and been nowhere near Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as he struck his first of the day.

Ancelotti had named the 24-cap centre-half in the starting line-up for the fifth-straight Premier League fixture on Sunday, having only chosen to tackle December’s encounter with Newcastle and January’s clash with Brighton without Mina in the opening XI.

The boss may now reconsider his options ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Manchester United at Goodison Park, having seen Mina struggle against Arsenal despite winning three of his four ground duels, three of three aerial duels, two of two tackles and completing 58 passes (85%) at the Emirates, per Sofa Score.
