External factors might have been partly to blame for Everton’s loss yesterday

The Blues crashed out of the Carabao Cup last night on penalties against Southampton.

A competition I felt as though we could have really gone for given Liverpool and Manchester United were already out, we had a favourable tie at home to the Saints.

However, we could only draw 1-1 in normal time and then the lottery of the penalties failed to go our way with Richarlison’s in particular well below par.

It seems, though, that external factors might have been against us, though.

As per the Liverpool Echo, since 2001 we have won a shoot-out and then lost one over and over again in that pattern.

Our last one before last night was against Norwich – which we won – and so naturally we lost this one.

Of course, you can’t really read into these things too much but, that said, it might at least mean we’ll win the next one that comes about in the future.
