Explained: Man Utd may have to pay £30m and £3.6m wages to sign key Everton player

|

According to the Evening Standard, Manchester United are interested in signing Idrissa Gueye as a replacement for Ander Herrera. The Everton midfielder could reportedly be available for £30m this summer and currently earns £3.6m-a-year/£70k-per-week.

The Blues are desperate to keep their key player, but Gueye has previously handed in a transfer request and tried to force a move to Paris Saint-Germain in January. Everton may be resigned to losing the 29-year-old, but they could land themselves some profit in the process.

The Toffees paid £7m to sign Gueye from Aston Villa in 2016 and now they’re being stung by the player’s ambition to keep moving up. The midfielder has been a terrific servant in his three years at the club, making 103 appearances in all competitions and contributing eight goals, but his future may lie away from Goodison Park.

Gueye is one of the best ball-winners in the Premier League and would certainly improve Manchester United’s squad. He’d be a shrewd replacement for Herrera and could be the subject of bids in the coming weeks. Everton would make more than 400% profit on Gueye if they sold him for £30m and will have covered his wages over the last three years too.
