Explained: How long will Morgan Schneiderlin be out for? What games could he miss?

|

Everton confirmed in Friday’s match preview that Morgan Schneiderlin will miss Sunday afternoon’s clash with Manchester United. The 30-year-old is out of action with a calf injury and isn’t expected to return for two weeks.

Games he could miss

  • 18/12/19 (League Cup) Everton v Leicester City
  • 21/12/19 (Premier League) Everton v Arsenal
  • 26/12/19 (Premier League) Everton v Burnley
  • 28/12/19 (Premier League) Newcastle United v Everton

Everton travel to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City in the FA Cup third round on January 1, 2020, but it remains to be seen if Schneiderlin will be fit to face the Sky Blues.

In his absence, Duncan Ferguson is likely to call upon Tom Davies and Gylfi Sigurdsson in midfield as Everton are suffering an injury crisis in the engine area – Jean-Philippe Gbamin (thigh), Andre Gomes (ankle), Fabian Delph (doubt) are all currently out of action.

Schneiderlin hasn’t exactly been a regular through the campaign, racking up just 742 minutes of Premier League football, but Everton don’t have a natural replacement fit and available for selection.

How will Everton fare against Manchester United?

Win

Draw

Lose

The Toffees desperately need results to avoid falling into the relegation zone, so it’s bad timing that Ferguson loses another midfielder ahead of their meeting with United.
