Explained: How is young Everton midfielder faring out on loan?

Callum Connolly joined Lincoln City on a season-long loan in August and has been a regular for the Imps. The 21-year-old has struggled for minutes in the Everton first-team and embarked upon a move away from Goodison Park in order to get competitive football.

Connolly has made three appearances in all competitions for Lincoln, making one assist. The defensive-midfielder, who Transfermarkt say can play at right-back and centre-back, made his Lincoln debut against Fleetwood Town on August 31. He was handed 75 minutes of playing time and created a goal in City’s 2-0 win at Sincil Bank.

The Everton loanee was then handed 90 minutes against Doncaster Rovers (September 3) in the EFL Trophy, but Lincoln suffered a 3-1 defeat at the Keepmoat Stadium. Connolly was also on the losing team with the Imps met Wycome Wanderers (September 7) too – City lost 3-1 at Adams Park.

With Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph, Morgan Schneiderlin, Tom Davies and Jean-Philippe Gbamin for competition, Connolly has a tough task of getting minutes in the Everton first-team. Nevertheless, he has an opportunity to impress Everton scouts and give Marco Silva plenty to think about for next season.
