Everton have announced their 28-man squad for Open Cup in Germany. The Toffees have travelled to Mainz for the one-day tournament and will lock horns with Sevilla and Mainz in a round-robin format. The matches are 60 minutes apiece – 30 minutes each half. Everton’s first match will be against Sevilla at midday. Their second match against Mainz will be at 3pm.

Goalkeepers

Jonas Lossl, Jordan Pickford, Maarten Stekelenburg

Defenders

Seamus Coleman, Lucas Digne, Lewis Gibson, Yerry Mina, Matthew Pennington, Leighton Baines, Matthew Foulds, Mason Holgate, Michael Keane

Midfielders

Fabian Delph, Tom Davies, Andre Gomes, James McCarthy, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Morgan Schneiderlin, Anthony Gordon, Dennis Adeniran, Callum Connolly

Forwards

Nathan Broadhead, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Bernard, Fraser Hornby, Kevin Mirallas, Cenk Tosun, Theo Walcott

Tosun has returned from injury and may be given a chance to prove his worth in Oumar Niasse’s absence. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the only other Everton striker in the squad, so Marco Silva had little choice but to include the 28-year-old. Mirallas’ inclusion is interesting. The 31-year-old was expected to leave this summer, but he’s been unable to find a suitor and has been a regular for Everton in pre-season.

Given the short playing time, there may not be much Silva can glean from his players in this tournament. After the Opel Cup, Everton have one final pre-season friendly against Werder Bremen. The Toffees will travel to the Waser-Stadion on Saturday, August 3. A week later, they’ll lock horns with Crystal Palace in their first Premier League outing of the new campaign.
