Explained: Everton may have to pay £30m and £1m wage to sign centre-back

|

According to Marca, Everton are interested in Djene Dakonam, with Marco Silva looking to bolster his defensive options, but the Toffees could have stiff competition to procure his signature. Djene has interest from Arsenal and Leicester and won’t come cheap this summer.

The 27-year-old has made 30 appearances for Getafe this season, averaging a tackle (49) or interception (54) every 22 minutes, making 121 clearances and winning 67 aerial duels (51%). Marca say Djene has a £30m release clause while Football Manager and FIFA believe he earns between £19k-per-week – £22k-per-week.

With Phil Jagielka expected to leave Everton at the end of his contact this summer and Kurt Zouma to return to parent club Chelsea when the season comes to a close, the Blues will need a centre-back. Whether Everton, Leicester or Arsenal are willing to pay £30m for his signature remains to be seen, however.

Djene does have an issue with indiscipline too, with the defender having picked up 10 yellow cards and two red cards in all competitions. He’s also given away 40 fouls in his 26 league games. Despite this, he’s been a regular at a club surprising everyone in La Liga.

Getafe sit fourth in the table after 28 games and could be on course to book Champions League football for next season. Djene has played his part in their success.
