Explained: Everton may have to pay £18m and £2m salary to sign centre-back

According to The Sun (h/t HITC), Everton have asked Chelsea how much Kurt Zouma will cost to sign this summer. The 24-year-old joined the Blues on loan in August and has made 29 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating three goals.

With Phil Jagielka’s contract expiring at the end of the season and Yerry Mina struggling for form, Marco Silva will be short of defenders in 2019/20. Zouma has impressed at Goodison Park and may consider turning his loan move permanent as he hasn’t played for Chelsea for nearly two years.

The French international’s last appearance for the Londoners was against Watford on May 15, 2017, so Everton stand a good chance of getting their man. Zouma’s market value is £18m and he currently earns £2m-a-year/£38k-per-week at Chelsea.

The centre-back initially joined Chelsea from AS Saint-Etienne in 2014 and has gone on to make 71 appearances. Zouma has ben loaned out in the last two seasons and may feel he needs to settle at one club for the sake of his development.

Everton wouldn’t be a bad move, as the Merseysiders are only three points adrift of the top-eight. Marco Silva’s men are 11th in the table with 40 points from 31 games, coming off the back of two wins and a draw from their last four.
