Explained: Everton have to pay £24m and £3.5m salary to sign centre-forward

According to El Desmarque, Everton are interested in Borja Iglesias. The 26-year-old has enjoyed a dream debut season at Espanyol since joining from Celta Vigo last summer, and he could be on the move again if reports are to be believed. Iglesias has scored and created 16 goals in 33 appearances for Espanyol, making 33 chances and 15 successful dribbles.

The Spaniard finds himself in the top-10 for Liga goals, which is all the more incredible considering it’s his first full campaign in the top-flight. Iglesias’s form has attracted interest from Everton and Valencia, and Sport Witness say the former are willing to offer him a 400% payrise to come to Goodison Park. The striker currently earns £0.9m-a-year at the RCDE Stadium, so he’d make around £3.6m-a-year/£70k-per-week with Everton.

Iglesias has a release clause of £24m which wouldn’t break the bank for the Blues and would provide necessary competition in a key position. Everton need a striker as Cenk Tosun has struggled for form and they only have Dominic Calvert-Lewin available. Richarlison can lead the line, but he’s more of a wide forward. Whether Everton make a move for Iglesias remains to be seen, however.
