Explained: Everton exit couldn’t have gone better for 22-year-old

After finding himself behind Seamus Coleman in the pecking order at Everton, Jonjoe Kenny embarked upon a season-long loan to Schalke 04 to get more regular playing time. He joined the Bundesliga outfit over the summer and has been a regular at the Veltins-Arena ever since.

The 22-year-old’s decision to join Schalke has been vindicated after a number of impressive performances early on. Kenny has impressed so much that he’s even been nominated for the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month award – Ruben Vargas (Augsburg) and Xaver Schlager (Wolfsburg) make up the top-three.

The England u21 international has made four appearances in all competitions for Schalke, scoring one goal. He’s played every minute of every game in the Bundesliga & DFB-Pokal (360) so far and has already amassed 41% of the minutes he was handed at Everton last season (880).

As per WhoScored, in his three league appearances, Kenny has created three chances, won 50% of his aerial duels, averaged 44 passes-per-game with 78% accuracy, whipped in 14 crosses, made seven clearances and averaged a tackle (7) or interception (1) every 34 minutes.

The young right-back is enjoying life in Germany and could give Marco Silva food for thought upon his return in 2020.
