Explained: Club have option to sign Everton winger, decision could be made in June

|

Kevin Mirallas had his last game for Fiorentina on Sunday, although he failed to come off the bench. The 31-year-old was an unused substitute as the Violas played out a 0-0 draw with Genoa, and he could now make his return to Everton. Fiorentina do have the option to sign Mirallas, but his poor form in Serie A might put off the Italian outfit from buying him.

The Belgian international made 30 appearances in all competitions for Fiorentina, scoring only two goals. Mirallas failed to ripple the back of the net in Serie A since the turn of the year and has made only one assist. It’s hard to see Fiorentina turning his loan move permanent this summer as a result, although a final decision could take some time.

The Violas finished 16th in the table with 41 points from 38 games, two places and three points above the relegation zone. They’ve endured a dismal campaign, with only Frosinone & Chievo losing fewer games in Serie A. The club are in the midst of a takeover which could mean that decisions aren’t made on players until the ownership situation is clarified – that could mean in June.
