Shani Tarashaj endured a nightmarish start to at FC Emmen after picking an injury before making his debut, but the 24-year-old still hasn’t featured in the first-team and couldn’t have asked for a worse six months to his career in the Netherlands.

Tarashaj has made two appearances for Emmen u21s this season but is yet to represented the senior team. The Swiss international has been an unused substitute on four occasions (between August 2019 and January 2020), having spent the majority of the campaign sidelined with various injuries.

And as Tarashaj is yet to feature in the first-team this season, his goal drought continues. It’s now three years and three months since the centre-forward last found the back of the net. He’s netted for Emmen & Grasshoppers reserve teams but hasn’t scored a senior goal since Eintracht Frankfurt’s 3-0 win over Hamburger SV (October 21, 2016).

The 24-year-old’s nomadic career in recent years may be to blame for his form. Since joining Everton in 2016, Tarashaj has embarked upon loan moves to Grasshoppers (January 8, 2016 – June 30, 2016) (July 19, 2018 – June 30, 2019), Frankfurt (August 31, 2016 – June 30, 2017) and Emmen (July 14, 2019 – present), making 23 appearances in total and scoring one goal.

He has 18 more months to settle at Emmen, however, which could see Tarashaj get back to his best. The striker is nearing a return from injury, so he’ll hope to feature during the second half of the season.
