Everton’s summer signing reveals unusual shirt number for next season

|

Jonas Lossl revealed his unusual shirt number for next season on Twitter and explained why he chose it. Everton’s summer signing has picked the No. 49 following his move from Huddersfield Town as it was the number he wore at FC Midtjylland.

Lossl made 137 appearances in all competitions for the Danish outfit, conceding 167 goals and keeping 44 clean sheets, and wore No. 49 when he made his senior debut against Odense BK on March 3, 2010.

As per Transfermarkt, the 30-year-old wore the No. 49 shirt in 2007/08, 2008/09 and 2009/10 for Midtjylland. He switched to the No. 1 jersey in 2010/11 until his move to EA Guingamp in 2014/15. Lossl kept the same jersey in France (2014 – 2016), in Germany when he joined 1.FSC Mainz 05 (2016/17) and at Huddersfield Town (2017 – 2019).

For the Denmark national team, however, the shot-stopper currently wears No. 16 as he isn’t a regular for his country. He’s only ever worn the No. 1 jersey for Denmark when he represented the u21 side in 2010/11. Although Lossl has revealed his own shirt number early, Adam Jones of the Liverpool Echo says that Everton will announce their squad numbers in August.
