Everton’s Summer Capture Is “Worth More Than Double” After First Year In Premier League According To Pundit

One massive success for Everton during the 2018/19 transfer window was the capture of former Barcelona left back Lucas Digne.

The 25-year-old had a stand out first campaign in the Premier League, making 35 starting appearances across all competitions, with two substitute showings on top. In those games in impressed plenty in the Goodison Park faithful, and he chipped in with four goals and four assists – undoubtedly he answered the Leighton Baines question.

Having signed him for only £18million, that looks like a great bit of business in hindsight and even though there are some reports of interest from Tottenham Hotspur doing the rounds now, I’d be amazed if we cashed in on him quickly, even if Danny Rose did head in the opposite direction.

Manager Marco Silva and Marcel Brands have to view him as having a key role to play as we look to the future.

Speaking recently, former player Danny Mills lauded his quick adjustment to the Premier League last term, and he confidently predicted that we could easily consider him a £40million player now.

“Why would Everton want to sell Lucas Digne? They brought him in last summer and he has been brilliant. He’s now worth £40million, more than double what they paid. He’s a very good left-back. I first watched him play at the Under-20s World Cup and he looked a top young player. He is technically very good and he will get better as he gets more used to the Premier League.”

We definitely shouldn’t be looking to cash in or a cash + player swap as is being suggested, it would send out all the wrong messages for me.
